After months of work and reconciliation, the 21st Century Cures initiative has passed both the House and the Senate by overwhelming majorities. HDSA has been a strong supporter of 21st Century Cures, and we are thrilled to see this law go to the President's desk for signature. The law includes:
- $4.9 billion in new funding to the National Institutes of Health
- Funding for the establishment of a neurological disease tracking system coordinated by the Centers for Disease Control
- Strengthened patient engagement at the FDA through the Patient Focused Impact Assessment Act
We believe that these provisions will bring new opportunities for improved care as well as new treatment options for individuals and families affected by Huntington's disease.
HSDA, alongside our partners at the National Health Council, are excited to celebrate this victory for families affected by neurodegenerative diseases as this Congressional session comes to a close.
